ABOUT

Helene Aitchison is an award winning swim teacher, and the owner and head teacher of Turtle Swim School in Papamoa, Tauranga.

She has a real love for the water and teaching swimming. Her teaching style is motivating, passionate, empowering and enthusiastic.

Helene gained a Diploma in Swim Teaching through Swimming New Zealand.  She has certificates in Infants, Preschoolers, School Aged, Disabilities and Adults.  She has her Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Aust Swim Certification and Level 3 Aquatics with Skills Active.  She has recently done Aust Swim Certificate in Infants and Preschoolers and also Aust Swim Certificate in Access and Inclusion.

Trained as an Aust Swim Presenter and during summer is in at all the local schools delivering the Water Skills for life Programme.  Has a strong drive when it comes to the learn to swim program.  Expertise in teaching children and adults of all ages and abilities.

When travelling around the world, Helene worked and managed swim schools in Scotland and America, before returning to NZ and managing an Auckland swim school for 8 years. She followed a lifelong dream to run her own swim school, which saw her found Turtle Swim School whilst living in Auckland. Her family then moved to Papamoa, where she installed a salt water, heated pool; purpose built for teaching swimming to her community in the Tauranga district.

Continually looking for new ideas and ways to improve, Helene spends time time at conferences and up-skills regularly.

She has always been around the water, scuba diving, swimming, surfing and loves to travel and spend time at the beach with her family. She has three children who love the water and when she is not looking after them she is in the pool or ocean swimming, mountain biking or at the gym.
